The 2026 Volvo EC40 is the fully electric coupe-styled SUV in Volvo’s lineup, with a sloping roofline and the same Twin Motor all-wheel-drive power at both ends of its range. That shared powertrain makes the trim decision refreshingly simple: you are choosing the level of styling, sound, and driver-assistance features you want, not a different car underneath.
Two trims anchor the choice for buyers ready to commit. EC40 Core delivers the electric fundamentals with a bright, well-equipped cabin, while EC40 Black Edition Ultra layers on blacked-out styling, upgraded audio, and Volvo’s fuller driver-assistance set. Here is what each one brings.
Core opens the range with the Twin Motor powertrain, which produces 402 hp and 494 lb-ft of torque, reaches 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds, and travels up to 431 km on a charge. The cabin comes ready for daily life with a fixed panoramic roof, wireless phone charging, and Google built-in for maps, voice, and apps without a phone tether. It rides on 19-inch 5-spoke black diamond-cut wheels.
Core suits the buyer who wants the EC40’s electric performance and a bright, complete cabin without paying for the top-trim extras.
Black Edition Ultra is the halo trim, and it leans into a darker, more finished look. It rolls on 20-inch 5-spoke black edition wheels, swaps in colour-coordinated door mirror covers, and drops the rear engine emblem for a cleaner tail. Inside, it adds Harman Kardon Premium Sound, a Connect Suede textile and Microtech interior, a Crystal gear shift by Orrefors, and interior illumination at the high level. On the driver-assistance front it brings Pilot Assist, a 360-degree camera, Pixel Technology Headlights, and park assist front, rear, and sides. An air purifier with remote cabin pre-cleaning and heated rear seats round out the comfort additions.
Black Edition Ultra is for the buyer who wants the boldest EC40 look together with the fuller set of driver-assistance and comfort features.
No matter which trim you choose, the EC40 delivers the same electric core. Both Core and Black Edition Ultra run the 402 hp Twin Motor all-wheel-drive powertrain, seat five, and travel up to 431 km on a charge. Both also arrive with a fixed panoramic roof, wireless phone charging, Google built-in, a two-zone climate system, keyless entry with a hands-free power tailgate, and Volvo’s foundational safety technology. The step up to Black Edition Ultra is about styling, sound, and added driver assistance rather than a change in how far or how quickly the EC40 goes. That makes the decision a question of finish and features, not performance.
