As winter approaches, it is time to start thinking about winter tires and make an appointment to have them installed. You may have questions about which winter tires are right for your Volvo vehicle or when they should be installed, or how to tell if they need to be replaced. To help, we have created this quick guide of Volvo tire frequently asked questions. When it comes to finding the right winter tires for your Volvo vehicle, we are always at your disposal.
When should my Volvo have its winter tires?
Winter tires should be installed now, actually and that’s because the weather outside is getting colder. Tire manufacturers and experts will tell you that when the weather outside begins to dip regularly below 7 degrees, you should have proper winter tires on your Volvo. That’s because when it gets cold, summer or winter tires will begin to harden which means they will lose their grip with while also being less effective when braking. Now you do have some time, but we would at the very least recommend booking an appointment now. This way at least you are sure to have your winter tires on your vehicle when the snow starts to fall.
How can I check if I need new winter tires?
You can determine the condition of your winter tires by measuring the tread depth. Winter tires should have a tread depth of at least 4.8 mm to ensure they will last all winter. There is a good chance that your tires won't last until spring if their tread depth is less than 4.8 mm.
Do I need winter wheels to go with my winter tires?
In addition to protecting your summer wheels, winter wheels are also more economical to replace or repair than summer wheels. Further, with winter wheels for your Volvo, you can reduce the size of your winter tires by an inch compared to your summer tires. As a result, you save money on subsequent winter tires. Winter wheels protect your vehicle's long-term value and can save you money in the long run.
