The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has a range of distinct collision tests, the most complex being the overlap test. To receive a Top Safety Pick+ designation, a vehicle must get the highest grade in all of the collision tests while also receiving top grades for its driver assistance technologies and good or acceptable ratings for the quality of its headlights.
