A refresh for the Volvo XC40 is on the horizon, but the 2026 model gives buyers plenty to work with right now. Every 2026 XC40 trim comes with all-wheel drive, a 247 hp B5 mild hybrid powertrain and heated front seats, so the strong points start at the base model.
The real choice comes down to the trim. Core, Plus, Ultra and Black Edition Ultra each add a clear layer of equipment, and knowing what each one brings makes it easier to pick the right XC40 for your daily drive. Here is the full breakdown.
Before looking at the trims, it helps to know what every 2026 XC40 shares. The B5 AWD mild hybrid pairs a 2.0 L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with an 8-speed Geartronic automatic for 247 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. It reaches 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds and is rated at 9.1 L/100 km combined.
Every trim also includes a 12.3-inch driver display, adaptive cruise control, Lane Keeping Aid, heated front seats, a power driver seat with memory and keyless entry with a hands-free power tailgate. With 569 L of cargo space behind the rear seats and 1,432 L with them folded, the XC40 handles weekend gear with ease.
Core is the starting point, and it already covers the basics most drivers want. It rides on 18-inch wheels, with 19-inch wheels available as an option, and comes with premium textile upholstery. Front and rear park assist with a rear camera helps in tight spots.
Core also opens the door to several options, including a panoramic roof, leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel and heated rear seats.

Plus is the trim where the cabin and the parking aids take a big step up. It adds a 360° camera with park assist on the front, rear and sides, a panoramic roof and HomeLink. Inside, Connect Suede textile and Microtech upholstery, a power passenger seat and high-level interior illumination give the cabin a more upscale feel.
Plus also adds fog lamps, an air purifier with remote cabin pre-cleaning, a foldable load floor with a cargo divider and a power outlet in the trunk. Harman Kardon Premium Sound and Pixel Technology headlights are available as options.
Ultra brings the full set of comfort and driver support features. Pilot Assist comes standard, along with Harman Kardon Premium Sound with an air-ventilated subwoofer and Pixel Technology headlights.
Ultra is also the most winter-ready XC40. It adds a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, heated windscreen washer nozzles and headlight cleaning as standard equipment. It rides on 20-inch 5-double spoke black diamond cut wheels.
The Black Edition Ultra keeps the Ultra equipment list and adds its own dark styling. A Black Edition grille, 20-inch 5-spoke Black Edition wheels and a Charcoal Connect Suede textile and Microtech interior set it apart from the rest of the lineup.
It comes in four exterior colours: Crystal White, Onyx Black, Denim Blue and Vapour Grey.
